Expert-Based Knowledge: Communicating Over Scientific Models

چکیده
Scientific models structure our perception of reality. This paper studies how we choose among them under expert advice. are formalised as probability distributions over possible scenarios. An is assumed to know the most likely model and seeks communicate it a decision maker, but cannot prove it. As result, communication about cheap talk game. The maker in situation model-uncertainty ambiguity sensitive. I show that information transmission depends on strategic misalignment players and, unlike similar literature, form consensus scientific models. When science divided, there an asymmetry when receiver has maxmin expected utility preferences. No can be conveyed above certain threshold. All equilibria game outcome equivalent partitional equilibrium informative one interim Pareto dominant.

Integrating expert knowledge into kernel-based preference models
In multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) and fuzzy modeling, preference models are typically constructed by interacting with the human decision maker (DM). When the DM experiences difficulties to specify precise for all parameters of the model, inference and elicitation procedures can assist him/her to find a satisfactory model and to assess unlabelled examples. In a related but more statistica...
متن کاملKnowledge-Based Probabilistic Reasoning from Expert Systems to Graphical Models
An important research enterprise for the Artificial Intelligence community since the 1970s has been the design of expert or “knowledge-based” systems. These programs used explicitly encoded human knowledge, often in the form of a production rule system, to solve problems in the areas of diagnostics and prognostics. The earliest research/development program in expert systems was created by Profe...
متن کاملCommunicating scientific uncertainty.
All science has uncertainty. Unless that uncertainty is communicated effectively, decision makers may put too much or too little faith in it. The information that needs to be communicated depends on the decisions that people face. Are they (i) looking for a signal (e.g., whether to evacuate before a hurricane), (ii) choosing among fixed options (e.g., which medical treatment is best), or (iii) ...

متن کامل10 Knowledge Based Expert Systems in Bioinformatics
The recent revolution in genomics and bioinformatics has taken the world by storm. From company boardrooms to political summits, the issues surrounding the human genome, including the analysis of genetic variation, access to genetic information and the privacy of the individual have fuelled public debate and extended way beyond the scientific and technical literature. During the past few years,...
